Andrew “Drew” Benson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Poultry Science at the University of Georgia, where he teaches courses in poultry science and avian anatomy and physiology. His research focuses on avian reproductive physiology, and he is committed to helping students understand birds through hands-on learning, scientific inquiry, and an appreciation of the connections among animal biology, welfare, and conservation.

Drew’s love of birds began with his grandmother, an avid birdwatcher who shared her appreciation of birds and the natural world with him. He joined the Wild Nest Bird Rehab Board of Directors because of his interest in bird conservation and his desire to support the organization’s work in wildlife rehabilitation, education, and community outreach. As a board member, he helps identify funding opportunities and develop grant proposals to support Wild Nest’s programs, operations, and long-term growth. His favorite birds are corvids, a family that includes crows, ravens, jays, and magpies.
